Failed a technical interview that I was recommended for and it feels terrible

I've been unemployed for about a year with some interviews here and there and finally had something thrown my way by a friend. A job at the company where he worked which was a 50% salary increase on my previous job (more money than I'd ever made), fully remote at a very well known company, and I exceeded all qualifications. The only wrinkle was that it was tech adjacent, not my exact expertise, but the resume sounded like it was written for me.

I nailed the first interview with the direct manager, then passed through the cultural interview the next day, he said the technical interview would be next and said it should be easy for me (spoiler: it wasn't). I was given instructions by the recruiter a few days before the interview and practiced coding all day for 3 days straight. When I joined the interview I was given a sheet with instructions by the manager and they did not match anything that the recruiter had sent me. I'd spent 3 days studying the wrong things and fumbled my way through the interview. I did what I thought he wanted me to do (I should have asked more questions), and he was taking a lot of notes and I thought maybe I did enough during the interview to get through but felt sick immediately after the interview and all weekend. I got the rejection email today.

I went through the interview after without the time pressure and it was actually pretty easy... I feel like one of those athletes that you watch blow a shot at an empty net and think to yourself "wow that was embarrassing". I blew an empty net interview for a job that I had the inside track on because of my friend's recommendation and I feel absolutely terrible. This was going to be a life changing job and I'm back to having no prospects and feel hopeless.
