As a reader, the “have you all literally died?” line really rubbed me the wrong way. I understand that authors sometimes get frustrated when their readers are quiet, especially when they’re going through a difficult time, but your readers are not obligated to constantly comment or prove that they’re alive just because you want engagement.

You can ask your readers to interact without making them feel guilty for being silent. People have school, work, family, personal problems, or simply may not know what to say. Being a reader doesn't mean being permanently available for an author's emotional support.

And honestly, if your first reaction to quiet readers is “have you all literally died?”, maybe take a step back and think about how that sounds from the reader's side. These are the people supporting your work. Talking to them like they're a problem because they're not interacting enough isn't exactly respectful.

Authors deserve appreciation for the work they put into writing, absolutely. But readers deserve basic respect too. A reader is allowed to be quiet. They don't owe an author constant validation.
