Carrie & Big were meant for each other, but not because they’re soulmates

HEAR ME OUT. Idk if this take has been said before but I just finished rewatching all the seasons of satc and in my opinion, Carrie and Big are meant for each other. I don’t hate Carrie but I don’t love her either, it‘s the same way for me for Big (although he has a lot more reasons to be hated imo).

They’re meant for each other not because they’re soulmates and are a “perfect fit”, it’s just because they would be miserable with everyone else. We can see Big’s relationships with Natasha and his ex wife never working out, we see Carrie never truly experiencing a relationship the same way she experienced it with Big.

I think it’s also a case of unconsciously codependency, although it’s way more visible on Carrie’s part. We can see that Big never really lets go of her and that Carrie, if roped in again, will not voluntarily leave. There is a certain power imbalance in the way that Big seems to call the shots but is still more or less dependent on Carrie.

All in all - a very interesting relationship dynamic to analyse.
