Doctor won’t check ferritin levels anymore now that it’s at 40. Is that normal?

Question

Hi! I recently got all of my levels up. My ferritin was 19, now it’s 40. My doctor said since all of my other numbers are normal now too, that they aren’t going to check me anymore. I guess that’s fine but when I asked if I should keep supplementing they said yes. When I asked if I could have too much iron, they said yes. They never told me a plan beyond this. They never mentioned when to switch to a lower dose of a supplement, if ever. They just said keep taking it (I’m taking 36mg of bisglycinate iron every other day at the moment).

I feel abandoned by the medical system right now. Particularly because I went to this doctor (my Obgyn) because she told me that she would continue to monitor me based on how I feel, not what the number is. I feel better, but I still have some symptoms.

I considered that maybe my insurance would no longer pay, but honestly I’d be open to paying out of pocket if I have to, not that it’s ideal.

Is this normal treatment? Were my expectations were too high? Is there anything else I should do or just let this be what it is, and continue my supplement? Thanks for any help on this. I’ve been lurking here for a while and everyone’s experiences have already helped me a lot.
