New and confused

Completely new here and still leveling (50). I'm finding my gear and weapons just not up to scratch but I don't have the materials to craft new stuff and I'm not sure what gear sets to unlock for leveling etc.

I have no clue what "build" is best or what I want to be in the end game. I enjoy going in with a sniper and then some kind of sub-machine gun with a sword as melee. I'm using the Voodoo Doll atm because it does insane damage in crowded rooms.

I'd love to guidance and suggestions.
