Reoccurring nightmare of an evil room for years.

Recurring Dream

I've been having the same reoccurring nightmare for years. Probably over a decade now. I had another one last night and it sparked a strong desire in me to try and understand why this specific dream haunts me still.

In my dream/nightmare I'm in a house. The setting of the dream can be completely benign. Occasionally there will be a long pleasant or good dream leading to me noticing the evil room is present.

The house itself changes completely, the layout is never the same, and I never go outside. But the constant is there's always a room, usually tucked away downstairs, that's just evil and awful. Rarely I can manage to stay away from the room in the nightmare, but most commonly I end up inside. Sometimes inside the room I will try to fix the room. I'll clean it or tidy it before always trying to escape it. But there's a horrible weight that always makes it hard to move, hard to speak or cry out. And the door will always shut or try to shut trapping me in. Trapping me with the evil crushing malice within the room. Between the weight of the room and the door I can't get out without help from outside the room, which happens only very rarely.

Like the house, the room itself varies too. But a constant is always odd angles, narrow walls or weird designs. Sometimes the walls look like a horrible fever dream. My most recent iteration had a dresser built into the corner of a wall, and the drawers scraped the walls when pulled out making that awful nails on chalkboard noise. The room is never beautiful. Everything about it feels wrong and malicious.

I've seen discussion online that basement dreams are often representative of the subconcious. However the basements in my nightmare are often mostly fine. It's just the singular malicious room that frequently feels like it's pulling me inside, like a form of gravity.

I'm completely lost with how to interpret this further. I hope someone here can give me more insight that I can glean from the internet.
