I made my own religion
Don’t worry, I won’t try to convert you. I simply pondered: What makes me happy? Then I reverse-engineered a system based on what actually works. This is the opposite of the Mormon approach, which is to start with assigned rules and contort yourself to make them work. (If going to the temple is boring and you struggle to stay awake, keep trying.) Basically, my approach is descriptive rather than prescriptive. God is irrelevant in my system. Whether he exists or not makes no difference.
So, what makes me happy?
1. Discovery. I like going to new places and seeing new things.
2. Mastery. I like doing hard things or watching other people stretch the limits of human potential in art, music, sports, or almost anything.
3. Creation. I like to build things that never before existed.
4. Alignment. I believe in the Scout Law. When my behavior falls short, I feel bad.
5. Service. I’m not talking about fake service, like getting baptized for dead people. I’m talking about providing meaningful assistance to people. It feels good.
6. Connection. I’m an introvert, but I like having meaningful relationships and being part of things bigger than myself.
