Am I overreacting by going this far to keep someone from going back to his ex-wife?

❤️‍🩹 relationship

Trying to keep this as vague as possible.

Someone I’m close with and I recently reconnected after not speaking for a few years. Before that, he had become pretty isolated because of a controlling ex-wife who had convinced him to cut a lot of people out of his life.
Things have been great since we reconnected, and I didn’t want to lose him again. I was worried that if something didn’t change, he might eventually go back to her.
He has a habit of saying things that, by today’s standards, could potentially get him in trouble at work, especially with how sensitive everyone is. I anonymously reported some of the things he said to his employer a couple of times.
When I didn’t see any indication that the reports were going anywhere, I made one more report using a pseudonym that sounded very similar to his ex-wife’s name. I was hoping that if he believed she was behind it, he wouldn’t trust her and would cut her off immediately.
It kind of worked. He’s convinced that she was the one trying to sabotage him, and as far as I know, he has now cut her off.
No one knows I’m behind this.
I know this sounds messed up, but I did it to protect him from her. She’s extremely toxic, and I felt like this was the only way to keep him from going back to her.
Am I overreacting for going this far?

Edit: Y’all don’t understand because you don’t know how toxic and isolating this relationship was for him. I knew I had to take drastic measures that would stick. I believe she did some black magic on him!! I was protecting someone I care deeply about and love from being pulled back into a situation that had already caused a lot of damage to him and his loved ones.
Trust me, you’d do the same if you were in my shoes.
