Feedback : I doubled my prices expecting to lose half my clients and only lost two
I ran a small freelance operation for three years underpricing everything out of pure fear that anyone would say no. every time i quoted i shaved the number down before i even sent it, then resented the work later. this year i finally forced myself to roughly double my rates for new clients and quietly raise the old ones. i was genuinely braced to lose half of them and had a whole plan for the drop. two left. two. everyone else either did not blink or said the price felt fair for what they got, which was a gut punch because it meant i had been leaving money on the table for years while telling myself i was being competitive. the surprise lesson was not really about money. the higher price changed how clients treated the work, they took it more seriously, pushed back less, and referred better people. i priced from fear for years and the fear was the only thing that was ever real.
