Basic chests reach 6 floor tiles and iron chests reach 16?

I am seeing a bunch of stuff that says iron chests are supposed to be able to reach 32 meters vs a normal chest reaching only 12, is this still accurate in 1.0? I just tried checking chest range and a normal chest had the same reach as an iron chest of about 6 tiles, am I missing something or are all the ranges wrong online?
