Husband is verbally abusive to me in front of our child
Burner bc I want this anonymous. My husband and I are in our late twenties. Been married 5 years and have a 20 month old. I am a SAHM and our nikkah contract stated that he must fulfill his obligations to provide financially as the husband. Husband left his 350k plus job two years ago to start his business. I was supportive and believed he could be successful. 2 years later the business is failing and we have lost everything due to it, including our home and life savings. I was supportive with cutting back on expenses and living frugally in this season of life but it’s gotten to a point where we can’t afford necessities. We are one bad month away from being homeless. Anyhow, we have had talks about him getting a job and turning his business into a side thing and he agreed. However, it’s clearly very difficult for him to come to terms with.
He seems to take all of his stress from this business out on me and our marriage is honestly falling apart. May I mention we had a great marriage before he left his job. He is very verbally abusive towards me and constantly takes his stress out on me. For example, today I was speaking to him about what I think he can change to possibly improve his business and he told me to not get involved because it was “his business and his money”. I got upset and said islamically it is ours and it is also community property in the eyes of the state so it’s not fair for him to say this. He said he does not give a f*** what the state thinks and that I should go back to my dad’s house (insinuating divorce). Insulting me calling me stupid and that how would I know about a business. He was yelling all of this at me in front of our daughter. This is just one example but has been happening frequently. He will apologize and then end up doing it again.
Idk where I am going with this but I don’t know what to do. I hate to ruin my daughter’s two parent household. But at what point does seeing your mother be verbally abused and yelled at outweigh the benefits of being in a non-divorced household? I have the capability of leaving (good education) but would hate to put my daughter in daycare at the same time. I guess I am seeking advice.
Edited to change daughter’s age from 1 year old to 20 months
