19f. I can’t have a connection with either of my parents, they genuinely do not care about my life, and when I try to connect it’s usually reacted to with scrutiny, and dismissal. Since I currently live with my parents, and don’t really have many friends currently, it’s led to me feeling depressed, and isolated.
Here are some examples of what they do.
I can’t have a normal conversation about certain subjects without my mother constantly tone policing the sound of my voice, and how I talk about it. For example, if she’s talking about something she seems bad, and I talk with her about it using my normal tone of voice, she’ll get angry and say that I sound “happy” or that I don’t sound upset enough. It doesn’t help that I’m autistic, so when I speak I sometimes don’t have much time expression.
Another thing that happens frequently is that; I’m never allowed to correct something that’s wrong, or voice my opinion without being hung up on or given the silent treatment. If I ever say anything that she doesn’t agree with or she doesn’t like she just won’t speak to me, and it’s not ever over anything of importance. It’s almost always about miniscule things that can be solved over proper communication. But nope. She won’t explain things, speak things out, or have a friendly debate. Ever. She claims I’m “confrontational”, when I simply just normally state I disagree with something.
When I try to speak about something important, she always ignores, gets occupied by something else, doesn’t engage in the conversation, uses her phone and has hardly anything to say when I tell her important things- unless it’s something negative.
And then, since I can’t talk about anything actually important with her because it gets dismissed, let’s say I try to bond with her over less important things. Pop culture, music, random facts.
That’ll also get her mad, she’ll claim I have no life and that she doesn’t care about hearing about this “frivolous stuff”. For example, I’ll put on a song and ask her if she likes it. Instead of just saying no and moving on like a normal person, she’ll start going on and on and get offended “why would a woman of my age like this music? Maybe people in your age range like this, but I wouldn’t be normal if I liked this.” Or I’ll tell her something that’s on the news/ in popculture and she’ll be like, “why would I care about other people’s lives? You’re so frivolous. They don’t care about you”
She constantly takes things I say, twists them to sound bad, and then talks shit with other people about me. She’ll never keep anything private. And then when I say “please stop talking about me” she’ll claim “I never talks about you.” Which is bullshit. she does.
And then, she has super disordered eating. When she’s angry, she’ll call me a “fat cow”, and always tries to push her eating problems onto me. Due to her problems when it comes to food, I can’t ever go out with her if it involves going to a restaurant. She’ll refuse to try a new place ever, and if I decide to try a new place and don’t comply with her habits, she’ll have a break down and start complaining how the food is full of salt, oil and disgusting. I will never forget, that this happened on my birthday dinner a few years ago. We went out to dinner on my birthday to a really nice high end Italian restaurant that has good ratings, she couldn’t even keep it to herself for my birthday. The whole time she was complaining about how greasy it is, how much fat is in it, and salty it is. It made me feel shit during my birthday dinner.
She’s also extremely sensitive. I stopped going out with her due to her going crazy and trying to micromanage everything when we go to restaurants, and she’ll act butthurt, and angry when I tell her I don’t want her to come and get food with me.
Doing this will make her ignore me for days.

And then my dad. He’s also horrible.
I can’t bond with him over anything, he makes irreverent jokes about anything and everything I say. It’s impossible to have a conversation with him, let’s say I tell him something about my day, he’ll immediately make a joke, and won’t ask anything else about my life or anything.
When I try to bond with him over just normal things like he’ll get angry, raise his voice and say he doesn’t care. For example, I love spicy food. He also likes spicy food. I was in the car with him and I said “I just tried a new super hot hot sauce, the spiciest I’ve tried! What’s the hottest food dish you’ve tried?”
He’ll start raising his voice and say “I don’t know and I don’t care! Don’t ask me questions like that.”
So i can’t ask him unimportant questions about anything or else he’ll get annoyed; and I can’t share any normal things about my life and he’ll just make jokes about everything I telll him.

So yep. Thats currently what i have to deal with everyday, non stop. It’s getting so soul sucking, there’s hardly any joy in my life and when i do try to find joy they try to take it away. She gets angry when i go out, when i do anything thats not staying home and listen to her bitch about everything. I am trying to move out, but it’s going to take a bit as rn I’m focusing on things like college which would be hard to also balance with a job. I just don’t know what to do.
