Looking to purchase a used Cr-v and want some advice

Question ❔

I had a 2016 Honda CR-V, but unfortunately, during the September 1st/2nd storm and flooding in Toronto, my car stalled after being caught in floodwater. The insurance company ended up declaring it a total loss.

My CR-V had around 90,000 km on it. I had bought it used with approximately 78,000 km and only drove about 11,000 km over 3.5 years, since I work from home.

Now I’m looking to buy another CR-V, but I’m trying to figure out which model year would make the most sense for my driving habits. I really don’t want to spend too much because I don’t drive very much. Most of my driving is for personal trips and just enjoying the car. During the winter, I mainly use it for groceries, and I probably drive only around 100–150 km per month.

I’ve been looking at some 2017 CR-Vs on AutoTrader with mileage between 100,000 and 130,000 km. However, it’s becoming difficult to find a low-mileage 2014–2016 CR-V with the 2.4L engine.
Considering how little I drive, what model year would you recommend I look at? Would a 2017–2018 CR-V with 100,000–130,000 km make sense for someone with my driving habits, or would it be better to keep looking for a 2014–2016 2.4L?

I can honestly manage without a car, but I’d still like to have one because when my dad visits, I’d love to be able to take him around for small trips and outings. However, that would probably only be for 2–3 months at most.

I’d really appreciate any advice or experiences from CR-V owners, especially regarding long-term reliability, the 2.4L vs. 1.5T engines, and whether it makes sense to spend more on a newer model given how little I drive.

Thanks so much for reading my question, and I really appreciate any advice you can share!
