I am getting my assessment for my adhd reviewed by my psychiatrist.. I’m overthinking wondering “what if I don’t have adhd” and I am just lazy? Suggestions too please

Questions/Advice

So I’m 38, male if that matters.
I have typically had a hard time with school. Even from when I was young. It is actually funny, because I don’t think I did work as often as I should have. Even in college. I passed, so I don’t think I’m an idiot.

Even at 35, I took my self to get continuing education, equivalent to a 2nd degree. I was able to get a work certification. But I didn’t really study hard for the exam, as it was a lot of information I learned in my career. And the continuing education was also related to my career, so it helped attending the live class.

I don’t think I did many study questions at all for my certification, maybe a couple dozen. And I believe the essay is designed in a way to give you as much credit as possible.

I have always avoided adhd, because of the amphetamines and my family would always say as when I was young g to never admit to mental illness. Especially adhd as it could impact how you are viewed at your job if anyone where to find out.

My worry is, what if it doesn’t work? I want to further my real studies and my career, but it’s so difficult for me to get the ball rolling. I want to. But I procastinate. It’s like my mind knows I want to be productive, but it distracts itself. Even my body. And that just sounds silly and lazy.

And I’m just wildly worried, what if the first prescription doesn’t work? What if I’m just lazy? What if I don’t have discipline?

If you have adhd, does that mean that any medication may help by some margin?
