[Question] Without jailbreaking, is it possible to activate an app from lockscreen using an action (e.g. long press home)?

Hopefully somebody with dev experience knows the answer to this: Would it be possible to develop an app to perform an action from the home screen (eg send an email) through an action such as long press home? (I realise this would be trivial on a jailbroken device). Thanks,
