CateBot: Quoting the CCC So You Don't Have To...

Giving great thanks to u/mgrieger and his open sourcing of u/VerseBot, as well as to the awesome mods of this subreddit, whom have indulged me during the testing of a CCC variant thereof, I introduce u/Catebot, a 'bot that quotes the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC).

CateBot can be called forth using a syntax similar to that of VerseBot. In order to quote paragraphs of the CCC within a r/Catholicism comment, simply enclose the paragraph numbers within brackets and precede them with the tag 'CCC'.

So, for example, in order to quote CCC paragraph 317, you would put the text [CCC 317] in your comment. The 'bot doesn't care about uppercase vs. lowercase, so [ccc 317] is exactly the same command.

In as much as the FAQ covers examples of how to use the bot, the quick and dirty is that you can do the following:

  • A single paragraph callout: [ccc 1234]
  • A single paragraph callout without a space between the tag and the paragraph number: [ccc1234]. Not recommended just because it's ugly.
  • A comma separated set of paragraphs: [ccc 333,771,317].
  • A range of paragraphs: [ccc 2501-2053]
  • A combination thereof: [ccc 333,2051-2052]

May 4, 2014 Added Functionality

  • Supports the Code of Canon Law: [can 1118] [can 1118s2] (Doesn't handle section ranges)
  • Supports the General Instruction of the Roman Missal: [girm 134]

See below for the examples above filled in by the 'bot...
