[Star Wars] When/Where was Anakin's transformation established?
In the original trilogy we find out that Anakin was Obi-Wan's friend/protegee, and that he was turned to the Dark Side after the Clone Wars, but where was it first established that he was severely injured by lava of Mustafar?
Prior to Episode III, I recall hearing about this, as well as how he had hunted down Jedi prior to his battle with Obi-Wan, receiving new injuries at each encounter, but only needed the suit after his battle with Obi-Wan. Was this established in a book/comic prior to the prequels?

The lava thing was featured in one of Vader's inner monologues in the ROTJ novel, if I'm not mistaken. So: 1983.
This is correct, Wookieepedia also says that it's first non-publicly released mentions were in the drafts for Return of the Jedi, so it's possible leaks also caused people to know and it spread via word of mouth and fanzines? Who knows.
But yeah, RotJs novelization was the first official mention.
Hmmm, I seem to recall it being mentioned in Splinter of the Mind's Eye, but it's not expanded universe canon and I could be misremembering; I don't have it anymore.
