Juicing Questions! Help!

My sister recently purchased an Omega Juicer from Bed, Bath and Beyond. She hardly uses it and I decide I wanted to give juicing a shot. I've purchased all the basic ingredients to according to juicing recipes (Kale, apples, carrots, spinach, etc.) but a few questions still linger.

  1. I'm sort of scared of doing a full juice fast and idk if I will be able to deal without actual food. I cannot live without meat. I've decided to go with juicing as meal replacements. Is this a good idea?

  2. Also, I've read and heard that with weight loss during juicing, the weight usually comes back after a small amount of time of not juicing is this true? How can I prevent it?

  3. In combination with juicing, I would like to start a work-out plan to go with it. However, I've heard that juicing and working out basically don't mix.

  4. I am currently a college student on a college budget, I'm not sure how to be able to select great vegetables at reasonable costs. Any advice?

Thanks in advance to anyone willing to answer! :)

  1. I've done a few juice fasts and have supplemented them into my daily routine. I personally don't like juice fasts so I don't do them. If you do a juice fast, the best thing you could do is chew a lot of gum between juices on days 2-4 (my worst days). The chewing kinda helps.

  2. I didn't weigh myself during a juice fast, but yes you do lose a lot of weight. You gain it all back when you don't overcompensate when you get to eat again. My first juice fast I ate so much food on the days after that I probably gained all the weight I had lost back.

  3. If you're just supplementing your usual diet with a juice (say replacing breakfast or dinner) then working out is not a problem. Just be aware of your body just in case you start feeling lightheaded or dizzy, but you should be good. When I did juice fasts, I'd have a hard time doing anything but walking and light yoga.

  4. Farmers markets or Asian food markets. They sell fruits and veg cheaper than normal supermarkets.

Hey thanks for the reply! Quick question, typically how long were your fasts? I've read some are 7-10 days others are like 30-60 days.

I never did more than 6. I don't really think that the 30-60 day fasts are all that healthy...

I gradually shifted my thought process from "quick weight loss fix" to a lifestyle change and I'm way happier than binge dieting.

Would you say you notice a big immunity to sicknesses like the cold and flu since this lifestyle change?

Hi there. I'm a 27 year old, working full time, female. I've been juicing for the past two months solid. I've never done a juice fast but have pretty much had at least 16 oz to 32 oz a day for the past 8 weeks. I juice 2-3 times a week and save in mason jars for about 1-3 days max. I drink it for breakfast with a banana, or with my lunch, or an afternoon snack.

In terms of health, I do feel that juicing has helped fight off illness and also recover a lot quicker if you do get sick. Besides an immunity boost, I have more energy in the day and juice and more water really helps to regulate your digestive tract/clean you out more often (if that is a problem).

I've also started taking a women's multivitamin (made from whole foods) and also a flaxseed oil supplement a few weeks ago in addition to regular juice consumption. Both supplements are organic. I have noticed really good results with how I feel overall with this combo. The whole foods multivitamin kind of costs a bit up front, but so far it is the best I've ever taken. Usually when I take those, my pee turns neon green/yellow. That is an indication that you are just peeing out the nutrients and your body isn't absorbing most of it. I haven't had that color pee with the multivitamin, so I take it as a positive and that my body is absorbing all of the nutrients from the vitamin.

Hope this helps!
