What irks me most about facebook acquiring oculus...

I want the upcoming VR world to be a open environment. Different hardware companies making headsets and other gear, open engines that allow output and input from different devices, and independent developers making content for these systems. I want to explore terra incognita, a new temporary autonomous zone.

Now it looks like the immediate future of VR is walled gardens from either Facebook or Sony, with a rich ecosystem of in-app purchases and thoroughly marketed casual games and hardware vendor lock-in.

It will be a corporate amusement park. Safe, controlled, full of ads, boring.

Are you basing any of these fears on actual information or just your personal feelings of facebook?

Do you have any interesting inside information the rest of us don't have? That you can make these informed judgements?

That's a pretty reasonable conclusion if you look at the history of acquisitions. The real question is, do you have actual info that they won't?

Actually yes, see their acquisitions of instagram and whatsapp. They left those services basically independent and both services have grown tremendously with little change.

People attacking oculus can use any ill informed information or judgements they want? But if people want to defend oculus they must have actual information?

You can judge based on no information but i can't? That's fair
