People still read this shitty comic?
Well, Smed kinda asked for it when he hinted this game and said that the SWG crowd could go home now. I never understood those words, what has SWG got to do with H1Z1?
I understand it completely. What he's saying is that he thinks H1Z1 is taking the path SWG originally took in its design.
The kind of design that allows roleplaying to flourish naturally through game mechanics that support it.
Another great example of this type of design is Space Station 13. Albeit not an MMO.
The question still remains if HE (and his team) understand what needs to be done to achieve that design...
If that would be true, we will certainly not see a fully fleshed out Eve Online-level sandbox for a very long time. It takes years to build that stuff.
But even then, who says the space MMO SWG crowd will be interested in a zombie survival game?
the problem with SWG was it was a theme park ride.
I think what he was referring to was the game mechanics of the original SWG (not NGE) in regards to crafting and player built towns and stuff.
I just hope that we don't see fields and fields of mining extractors. Ghost towns however are to be expected in a zombie game lol

Yes that's what I was referring to. This video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Str0J97pPy4
Tries to explain what made SWG special, doesn't do the best job honestly.
Another example of this as I previously stated is Space Station 13. You can still play it, its multiplayer just not an MMO, but it has a steep learning curve and like 0 graphics XD. Still a worthwhile experience.
Even another example is D&D / Dungeon world (dungeon world explains it better). It's a game about making a story with your friends in a sandbox environment, and there are some rules that live in the background that support the role-playing. (4th ed brought the rules very much so into the foreground and is why it received so much criticism but that's a different argument)
And the last two examples are all great and such but people really want these experiences on a MASSIVE scale, I.E. an MMO.
I think this is where smed is going with his comments but I agree on the point that these types of game require really indepth systems in the background that also don't control what you can do too much. Difficult task to accomplish to be sure.
I laughed.
It's a joke, don't be so serious.
oh I laughed as well, actually im still chuckling :P
didn't the author of this comic show his penis to a minor or something?
showed his dick to a minor, created a fake charity to "compete" with child's play once it had 2-4000 donated he took the money and used it to buy himself a new tablet and drawing equipment. And he's overall a giant dick to people.
Smed says "SWG people can come home" and everything just thinks about the type of game SWG was and not what it did. SWG was a Sci Fi game, but what it had was amazing communities and crafting.. it was about the social aspect of the game. This is what Smed was talking about when he said SWG people can come home.
H1Z1 has the potential to bring the social aspect that SWG had, in a much more darker and grim scenario. People banding together to build shelter and weapons. Defending against players and zombies at the same time. The thought of all that this game may bring makes me ecstatic. Day Z looks fun, but the ability to find a good plot of land in a persistent world like H1Z1 is exciting.
I just hope they can deliver what they are promising.
they won't.
I really don't see how it's going to work, the social aspect that is if the game takes the DayZ hardcore route, which is what it sounds like so far... still too early to tell though.
Well, I feel like people are going to want to band together. Defending against other groups and zombies.
Ah, so Tim completly missed the point of H1Z1, and why its home to SWG players.
Its about the crafting, the roleplaying and the potential to build a whole city. That was SWGs core. The rest was just the usual MMO stuff, packed with the Star Wars IP.
If they are capable of duplicating the features we loved in precu/nge then I'm sold.
LOL thats pretty funny

At the end of the day if we'll be building proper outposts, it's very easy to make the comparison to SWG city building. Which is what I think most people miss (not counting obviously crafting)
no its not SWG was much more than just crafting and city building
while very true, the moment I heard zombie sandbox everything else went out of the window in my head.
MMORPG = MMOFPS apparently
That was funny.
People sure do hold grudges about this a long time. I expect that Smedley & crew likely learned quite a bit from SW:G and hopefully will be smarter about H1Z1.
On an unrelated note, CAD is still around? goes to look over past comics
Brilliant!
So on point.
Jealousy.
Of what, exactly?
its still better then biowares effort :p
What SW:ToR that last year pulled in $139 million in revenue, Sure is a failure that game...
reportably cost between 200-500 million to make and went free to play within a year had less then a million subs.
And that point in time where you couldn't even unsub.
making money ≠ good game
So far it made a huge loss. :P
