ELI5: What would a modern war between two real armies look like?
Hypothetical scenario between two modern armies such as the US and Uk. Where would they fight, would it be mostly a in the sky?Ocean? On Land with Troops? What moves would either army take on the eve of battle?
How deadly would it/could it be?
Would it be a quick and fast or long and slow?

you only needed to look 20 years ago at Gulf War. it was real. thousands lost their lives. some coalition, alot of iraqi's. real war was fought. it wasn't just americans dropping bombs and firing missiles on iraqi targets with slingshots.
the gulf war started with airspace domination. f117 stealths dropped bombs that destroyed iraq's missile air defense and communication networks. then went tanks, followed closely by gas trucks. only then came the troop personnel.
Less than 20 years ago look at the invasion of Iraq in '03... There are alot of variables but unconventional warfare+bombing campaigns then boots on ground would be the way to go. The US vs anyone would be (excluding nukes+chems) mostly in the US's favor as we have a HUGE amount of personnel (highly trained+sophisticated equipment) to pull from. But with the personnel+equipment and my own biased opinion out of the equation the US would dominate most armies with little effort. Russia, China, and any coalition would take a bit but we'ed get them.
