Preamp Suggestions for a (mostly) Vintage Rig

I'd like to decouple my stereo rig from my home theater's pre-amp/processor. Please recommend the best stereo preamp for my setup (preferences and current rig described below).

My Preferences

• Type: Vintage Tube (though I could be persuaded to something SS)
• Price: Less than $800
• Other: (1) I don't want/need a bunch of tone knobs; and (2) I don't mind doing a DIY to restore something great (that might actually be fun)

• Pre-Amp (current): Integra DHC-9.9 Pre-amp/Processor
• Amp: McIntosh MC-250
