For those that moved to Memphis from a larger city: was it worth it?

My fiancée is getting a new job in Memphis, which means that we are moving very soon. We are coming from Raleigh, NC, which isn't a huge city, but it IS quite a bit larger than Memphis. I'm worried, and am asking if you have noticed: do musical tours and plays tend to skip Memphis? Is there a significant arts (galleries, book stores, etc) component to the town? I realize there are FAQs on the side if the page, but they don't really delve into these subjects.
