Even more popular since 50 Shades of Grey. True story. Sigh.

Now I want to see it.

Heard this for the first time just now... And it was too great for me not to share, even if it's seemingly a rather popular piece.

I feel like everyone knows this piece, but it really isn't a problem to repost ;)

I have performed this before... it was glorious and so much fun!

I tried this on Mellotron, synths, samplers, Vocoder and various other 'voice generators'. Not bad results, really, but as someone else pointed out it's all to do with that book.

That sounds pretty sweet.

In regards of it being mentioned in the book (had no clue), I don't see how it's a bad thing that good music is exposed to people... even people with the dubious taste to enjoy 50 Shades of Grey. I myself found the piece by reading that Terry Pratchet wanted it played at his funeral.

Thanks!

I first heard this piece about fifteen years ago. It's one of the few musical compositions that genuinely transported me.

Indeed. I've been in a sort of apathetic mood for the last few months, not really reacting to music with my emotions as much as I have on an intellectual or habitual level, and this piece just shook me up and gave me chills all over my body. First time in a long while!

Easily one of my favorites.

Nice! One of my friends in college was a trained countertenor (falsetto specialist), but his natural voice was a baritone. He actually recorded himself singing all the parts to Spem in Alium and combined them digitally to result in a chorus of just himself singing this.

but his natural voice was a baritone

The fun thing is that countertenors frequently have a lower natural voice (baritone and even bass). Apparently, lower voices have a stronger falsetto. For instance, you can check out this video of an encore by Andreas Scholl where you can appreciate both his falsetto and his natural voice.
