New to DIY - Having some issues, would appreciate some help.

Hey guys, sorry if this is a noob question but I'm new to this and struggling a bit. I'm trying to create a menthol which is perfectly suited to my tastes, but all of my creations thus far have been completely unvapeable and I'm not sure why. I'm getting very little vapor, and it's so harsh that immediately upon inhale I begin to cough. I did a fair amount of research prior to getting started and while I didn't expect to get it right the first time (or first ten times), I certainly didn't expect for all my juices to be completely unvapeable. As far as steeping goes, after I mix the juice I put them in my crockpot on warm for three hours, and I pull them out to shake them every 30 minutes. Is it possible that I just need to let them steep the old fashion way? Here's an example of a recipe I'm working with:

I've tried this in 60pg/40vg, 70/30, and 80/20 ratios, but I'm still getting the same results. I would appreciate any help you guys can offer. Thanks!

If I read your percentages right, you went up to 80% PG. PG is where the throat hit comes from, it also carries the flavor more so than VG. I started with 50% VG and increased from there.

I'll try dropping down to 50/50 and see what happens. Thanks for the advice!

NP and don't be afraid to drop the PG way down.

Looks like maybe too much pg, try 70% vg to 30% pg, vg tends to be less harsh

I tried that ratio already, so I'm going to drop it down a bit lower.

Where is the menthol from, and what % are you using?

The menthol is from Wizard Labs, which is 10% menthol crystals in a PG base. I'm using 3% of that in my liquids.

Try 1%. I use the same menthol, so I know how strong it is. Work up from 1% a few drops at a time until it's where you want it.

Cool, I'll definitely give that a shot. Thanks for your help!

EDIT : Unfortunately that wasn't the issue. I made two small test batches, one with 1% menthol, and one with none at all, and I still have the same problem.

Sounds like an atty problem, change your coil/wick or try it in a different rig

I just tested four different batches on an old Kanger EVOD I had lying around and yep, no harshness or coughing, and plenty of vapor. Flavor is lacking, but that's probably just a problem my with recipe. I had considered the atty being the problem since I'm using an RDA for testing the liquids and I'm still new to building my own coils/wicks. However, I initially ruled it out because I was able to vape professionally made liquids on the RDA just fine. To confirm, I went back and tried the professional liquids in the RDA again and sure enough, there was little to no vapor and it was super harsh. Definitely a problem with my build. Thanks for your help!
