[Meta] The good news and the bad news!
#WTF Just happened
Alright, so "RypeDub420" was the first person to volunteer as a mod and then later on lived up to his SWAGYOLO username. After removing him and banning him, the user Dougszilly, also a mod, brought him back, twice. Both are now banhammered! (And the villagers rejoiced).
During the few hours that RipeDog was back he changed pretty much every setting on the subreddit. Fortunately the Reddit Admins implemented their own wiki system in to all subreddits about a year or so ago. So this was all undone in about 2 minutes.
Along with changing all the settings to "Get fukt Reddit Admins" and other such clever witticisms, RopeaDope also deleted every post ever.
I'm actually not even mad, that saves us a ton of time cleaning up the 2 years of garbage that piled up. So... um, thanks? I guess? Yeah. Thanks man you did us a favor there. Still banned, I mean, because you're a douchebag, but, like, everything kinda worked out.
#A Brighter Future! (This part's important)
The whole reason I started this place 2 years ago was in the hopes of building up a community who would look through the piles of bad movies on YouTube and Hulu to find the best free movies you could legally watch online. I was hoping for a community that loves films, respects the industry that makes them, and could use this platform as a way to curate a list of great, free to watch, movies.
There are a million sites out there to access films illegally, and with the influx of 30,000 new subscribers, I'm sure many of you came looking for that. We're not here to promote those links, and posts linking to them will be removed.
Two days ago we were the fastest growing subreddit on the site. I'd like to think we can use this popularity for something good.
#Questions and comments can go below.
I'll answer a few quick ones I'm expecting:
- Was this a plot by the MPAA/Reddit Admins/Google/Ron Paul/etc?
- So far, the only people to contact me have been the Founder/Editor-in-Chief of the news site "TorrentFreak" who originally broke the story, and a reporter for "The Daily Dot".
- Can I be a moderator.
- ehhhhh.... ask again in a week...
- Is it okay to link to Short Films since they're not "Full Length" features.
- That's not really the purpose of this subreddit, but if they've been nominated for something at a festival, sure. Though if anyone wants to start r/FullLengthShortFilms, I'm fine adding a link in the sidebar.
- Update: u/Minecast has created our sister-community r/FullLengthShortFilms. Go there for cool short films!
#TLDR
A rogue mod unbanned a different rogue mod, who then deleted everything he could. Both are now banned, settings for the subreddit have been restored. Contact me if there are any future issues. Don't post illegal shit.
