Breast pain with phantom pregnancy lactation...

I had a late term failed pregnancy last year and just when I thought all the bullshit was over I started lactating... It freaked me out at first and I went to the doctor who told me it was my body thinking the baby was born aka phantom pregnancy. She said it was normal and would probably go away.

Well, my left breast - just in the last few days - has gotten very tight - almost hard - and it's super painful. It almost feels like my glands are clogged. I keep trying to milk it to release the pressure but not nearly as much is coming out of my left one as comes out of my right. I've tried heat packs, but I'm just starting to kind of worry.

Has anyone else been through anything like this?

I've been through the lactating process and because I had given the baby up for adoption, I was unable to breastfeed him. My best option was to stimulate them as little as possible to allow the milk to "dry up". At one point, my breasts felt very hard, painful and nearly became flat on the sides. I must admit, square boobs kind of freaked me out, but it soon subsided and they softened and were no longer tender once my body recognized that I did not need the milk. Perhaps because you were not full term, your body is just reacting differently and not in full production mode. My advice would be to wear lactating pads and keep them in a sportsbra until the swelling goes down. I am very sorry to hear about the pregnancy, and I hope this passes soon for you. I cannot imagine your situation, but I am sure you've been through enough. I wish you good health!
