4 and half year old physically strong. How to deal with it?

My kid is tall for his age,m and also strong to the point of causing problems with other kids.

He has a good nature and is affectionate. Also, is stringer than kids his age, and when calling to play he gets to excited and pulls them or carries them. Because he can!

We have tried to emphasize safe play, and we have rules of playing, but I see how he gets frustrated when he can't be as physical as as his mates, or when he gets told off because he tries to pick up kids that are his age but smaller than him.

How do you deal with that? The "safe play" concept is easy to get, but there are instances when he simply gets flabbergasted because the rules are not explicit.

Any ideas?

Introduce the idea of "rough play" (the rough housing you do with him) and let him know its ok to do "rough play" with the right people. Parents, older kids (that you already know and play with, not new kids).

Then you can talk about "gentle play" and "rough play", and it isn't something he's done wrong/bad, but he just picked the wrong type of play.

Also emphasize that you don't do "rough play" with new kids because it scares them and they'll think you're trying to hurt them.

And try and make a lot of opportunitues for him to use his strength and excercise.
