What fruit is this? Found it growing on a tree in our backyard in New Zealand.

It's delicious cooked with sugar. You cut the top to remove the seeds with a spoon and then cook it in water with sugar to make a thin syrup. It can be candied too.

When you cut it open it looks like the bastard child of a starfruit and a feijoa.
I thought it was a feijoa, definitely smells more like a feijoa than a paw paw, but it doesn't look like a feijoa.
Have you tasted it?
In US we could ask local Dept. of Agriculture office; do y'all have equivalent?
It smells very sweet, didn't taste it.

Star fruit?
Carambola a.k.a. a Star Fruit
Paw Paw I believe
If you pick a paw paw, or a prickly pear, and you prick a raw paw, well next time beware.
You better use the claw

I had no idea there were different types of paw paws. I'm in the us, out paw paws look way different
American pawpaw is Asimina triloba ( http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asimina_triloba ). This appears to be Carica papaya ( http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Papaya ) which is also known as pawpaw, but seems to be entirely unrelated.
Thanks! Looks nothing like a paw paw (rounder, black seeds etc) but as someone else said it is still young. Will mark solved when I get on a pc.
like the paw paw devil fruit???

If you're gonna spam that, at least include instructions for how to do it.
