Did anyone *not* have the 4 month sleep regression?

I have read a lot about the 4 month sleep regression monster and the 19th wonder week and you always hear about moms and babies who are having sleep issues. Did your baby skip the 4 month regression and didn't wake up 10 times a night?

We technically skipped it because sleep didn't get any worse but I think it was due to the fact that she was already a terrible sleeper at that point haha

Haha hope it got better eventually!

Jack went from sleeping 8.30pm-7am, to waking up at 1.30 for a quick feed and back down until about 7.30. I don't know if you can call that a sleep regression. I haven't really had any troubles, still feel rested and have a happy baby. I thought he was waking because he had a tooth pushing through his gum. Who knows though.

How old was he when he started doing that?

1

Just recently he's about 4.5 months

Argh I think we are there too. My son is 4.5 month and just started waking up in the middle of the night. For now, I'm attributing it to moving to a new house and teething. Oh lord I hope this goes away. I miss my 7:30-7:00.

Yep, skipped it completely. But we generally put down baby when drowsy but awake so he was used to the idea that going to sleep happened in his bed. I think that helped a lot. There was a period around 4 months when he'd wake more frequently in the night and suck his fist, move around and occasionally cry for a minute then go back to sleep. I always waited a minute or two before going to his room if he cried because I knew once he saw me he'd wake up properly and want feeding.

We "sleep trained" our little one at 12 weeks to know to go to sleep in her bed drowsy but awake. So far it seems to have worked!

At 1 year, my daughter has never had a sleep regression that I'm aware of, but she has also never slept through the night.

3
iamcoder83OP•

Is her sleep at least better than earlier months?

1
justsomemammal•

Not particularly.

1
iamcoder83OP•

Is he a good day time sleep at least?

1
justsomemammal•

Ehhh....she's better than she was. For a long time she took 3 20-40 minute naps. Around 10 months she started doing a 1.5-2 hour nap instead. I like that better.

Nah, we missed it. She's 6 months now, Usually does 730-730...once she woke up at 9pm, maybe that was it!

iamcoder83OP•

That's encouraging!

With my first we skipped it completely. She started sleeping through the night at 6 weeks and never reverted back to newborn ways.

2
iamcoder83OP•

That's amazing! Since 6 weeks we have had only one waking per night until about 12-14 weeks. Then it is a coin toss of whether she will sleep through or quickly wake up at 4am for a feed.

Waves hand. My kid was a great sleeper from about five weeks. Apart from the odd virus, brief bouts of teething, we've been getting 12 hours a night out of her for as long as I remember. We kept waiting for sleep regression. She's now 15 months and it's still 12-13 hours a night and a daytime sleep of about 1.5-2 hours. Some babies just like to sleep!

Obviously I'm aware she could change her mind any time and refuse to ever to to bed again, but that's for future H_Savage to worry about.

2
iamcoder83OP•

That's amazing sleep for a little one! We get sleep between 8:30 or 9 till about 7 or 7:30. And she cat naps all through the day.

We have been so lucky. You don't realise that every aspect of baby ownership is governed by luck until you hav one. She's been so easy; it makes me terrified for any follow-up babies. Nobody gets it this easy twice.

My parents say I was the same. Then they had my brother. He never slept basically ever. I'm totally getting that next time.

Also, your little one also does pretty amazingly! Ten hours is is some gooooood baby sleepin'. Long may it continue!

Mine is 17 months now, and with the exception of being sick, he sleeps 6:30-7:00 at night. This actually started on his 4 month birthday. I kept waiting for the other shoe to fall, but it never happened. So, it can happen!

Great news and great sleep little one! It's encouraging to hear :)

No sleep regressions for me yet and Girly is 7 months old now. Sometimes we have a fussy night but that for teething.

2
iamcoder83OP•

We haven't had any restless nights due to teeth, yet. 4.5 months old.

celtic_thistleFenris - June 2014•

Oof, we had. Almost 4 months old, and while he doesn't fully wake up (he's been sleeping through the night since he was tiny) he will move around and snuffle a bit before going back down. It's teeth.

1
iamcoder83OP•

We are now at 6 months and we have two teeth! Had about 3-4 very restless nights, up every 1-2 hours but she has settled down again. She had a cold at the same time so not sure which woke her up.

puckbunny51Alexa 2/3/14•

Yep. Alexa hasn't had any sleep regressions and acts no differently during a wonder week than any other time. She's just a very happy baby who loves her sleep!

Yay for happy babies!

Zoe skipped the 4 month regression. We were quite pleased.

1
iamcoder83OP•

Nice one Zoe! Keep it up!

That is what her mom and I said!

askeptikalhippo•

My son never went through it. He is 6 mo and has always gotten up once in the night to feed, usually around 4 or 5 and then stays down until 7 or 8.

1
iamcoder83OP•

What time does he go to bed?

1
askeptikalhippo•

Usually around 7 or 7:30

My little girl had it for 2 nights, or she just had bad gas for two days. Not sure which it was...

1
iamcoder83OP•

I would be able to manage two days!

I-heart-napsBaby K, Sept. 2013•

Mine actually started sleeping 11 hours a night at 4 months (in his crib, in his own room!). Of course, that went right out the window at 6 months and we still haven't recovered.

1
melon_overlord•

I was just talking to my SIL about this and she said her baby slept best from 4-6 months then it started to get crappy again after 6.

2
iamcoder83OP•

Oh dear! What happened at 6 months? Is it another sleep regression period?

1
I-heart-napsBaby K, Sept. 2013•

I have no idea! I think it started as a growth spurt followed by chronic teething (he got 6 all one right after another).

IvarasBaby girl (04/14) and two proud big brothers!•

I'm about to have a four month old for the third time around and I had no idea that sleep regression was even a thing until I started seeing posts on it a few months ago. My first was a great sleeper from the start and stayed that way until he was over two years old. We had some sleep problems at about 25 months, but I think they had more to do with us moving to a new home than anything developmental. My second was a horrible sleeper and stayed that way. I don't think there was anywhere for him to regress to. Hell, he's nine years old and he still hates going to bed.

rorrimlmirror•

Honestly, I've dealt with babies a lot and had never heard or experienced such a thing until I noticed it mentioned here. I think many people just psych themselves out. They are anticipating it, they are nervous about it and when they see the slightest change they freak out. The baby in turn picks up on the that nervous energy..it's a self fulfilling prophecy.

Not to say it never happens. It probably does. But not as often as this sub will lead you to believe.

iamcoder83OP•

Thanks, I also only read about it on here and it sounded like everyone got it and that all babies wake up every 30 minutes during the night for weeks on end. Out of our group of 10 moms, only one baby has what I would call the 4 month sleep regression but it might be due to teething and/or readiness for solids.
