Well, guess I'll just sit here, having a heart attack all night.

Rant/Vent

So, this afternoon, my husband and I went in for our 36-week growth ultrasound. All seemed well, baby was being his usual active self, and our ultrasound technician didn't seem to be acting weird and said he was measuring right where she was hoping he'd be. About 20 minutes later, after I'd left the office and was in the middle of a phone call with a family friend who just lost someone close to him, the doctor's office calls me (at 4:56 PM my time). I couldn't take the call because I was trying to be supportive to my friend and wound up checking my messages after it was over...only to learn that my OB's nurse left me a message asking that I call her back as soon as I get a chance, and that the office opens at 8:00 AM tomorrow. Awesome. Thanks for leaving me a message at the very end of the day, when you know your office is closing in less than 5 minutes and being all cryptic about what it is that you want. I know that there are likely many possible explanations for why she would call me that do NOT involve imminent disaster, but of course, I'm now sitting here imagining worst case scenario after worst case scenario. You'd think that someone whose office specializes in working with pregnant women would know better than to do this. Even if this does turn out to be a big deal (and, oh God, I hope not), wouldn't it have been kinder to just call me in the morning, since it obviously wasn't something that had to be addressed tonight? Ugh.

(Oh, and hi, everyone! I have been a lurker here for weeks and weeks and love seeing the support you all offer one another.)

My office did that as well, it turned out they needed to reschedule an appointment :-\

Your flair is why we're not finding out until the shower the fortnight before the due date. Neutrals all round please! Just cause the label says girl doesn't mean a boy can't be a Ladybird!

I really feel if it was seriously important, they wouldn't have just left you a message saying to call them in the AM. I would really hope no office works like that anyway.

I second this idea. Maybe it is just something they forgot to do or tell you during the appt.

Or, maybe something came up at the end of the day and they need to change your next appt?

Yeah, an ACTUAL problem would probably involve instructions about taking your notes to A&E or summat.

Source: My Husband had sore balls, and was told to hand a sealed envelope to A&E IMMEDIATELY. We knew it was bad when our A&E wait was 10 minutes (It's the NHS, and it was Saturday... Packed with bleeders and everything)... It wasn't a torsion, but still.

Ugh, I hate that! I know you are going to worry anyways, but try not to. Get some sleep!

They most likely can't provide details over voicemail because it would violate HIPAA. If they're not telling you to call some emergency after hours line I doubt it's anything extremely urgent.

Any update?

Thank you all for the much-needed perspective! Just hearing people say that the office probably handled it the way they did BECAUSE it's not an emergency helps so much (as do the reminders of all the things they are more likely to be calling about). I am going to cling to these thoughts as I try to get some sleep. You are all awesome. =)
