GamerGate and Social Contracts
Given to me by JCDenton in the IRC. It's a interesting read if you got the chance. Though it's mostly incorrect, I do feel it adds another point of view to the whole thing.

I can't read this. I tried, but I can't. It ignores notyourshield right off the bat and tries to say the problem gamers have is the medium us shifting towards a more neutral ground when that's not the issue.
No one gives a fuck about more games being made, or games appealing to a wider audience (protip: you can't appeal to everyone, you are sure to fail 99% of the time), what people care about is the clear shift in a direction that no one but feminists and SJWs are asking for. They care about people who care nothing for the medium walking in and changing everything to suit themselves. "I love what you've done with the place, but change all of it."
And, of course, their lackeys in the journo industry. The people pushing games that no one likes while publicly deriding games, devs, and gamers who enjoy what is currently there.
This article is economically illiterate, the casual market doesn't take away from the games industry it adds to it, and creates a lower barrier to entry for groups wanting to get into the industry. DLC is not filling this 'gap' made by the casual market it was created due to digital distribution making add-ons cheaper and easier to release. Economics is not a zero-sum game.
The idea that the games industry publishes nothing but 'white male power fantasies' is patently false the Japanese gaming market is as big as that of the US. Gaming is a global thing and I have played with people from every continent on earth, of every race and gender, this is the worse sort of Amerocentrism. Even if he was 100% correct and nothing but white males played games before, Economics is not zero-sum. A new players make the market bigger and people will cater to that in addition to existing market, not instead.
This is one of the reasons why I can't take people like movie bob seriously. His constant refrain of 'Too many white male heroes' is entirely the wrong way to look at things, I say there are too few. To few black protagonists, asian protagonists, women protagonists, and even white or male protagonists. A growing market means more choices, and that's good cause it gives new and interesting experiences. I play tabletop games and one of my favorite characters was a 50 year old Episcopalian Priest, where as I am a very vocal athiest. It was interesting to be something I was not, though I will generally return to characters I have more in common with to express favoritism is not the same as decrying choice. Diversity doesn't not require throwing the people who made this a mainstream hobby under a bus.
That's a cracking post man, it entirely echoes my thoughts, and you've typed it in an entirely positive way. Kudos.
thank you
I don't have time to read it right now, but the 'social contract' is one of the most ridiculous concepts ever invented.
