The Speed of the Entities
So, in Interlude 26, we see the entity say that:
After the target planet has revolved thirty-three times around its star, this shard will connect to a host.
It's talking, here, about Imp's shard.
Then, a little ways down the page, we see that:
The entity is approaching the galaxy cluster in question now, and it sees its counterpart doing the same, if at a slightly slower pace.
For reference, Earth and the Milky Way are part of the Virgo Supercluster, which has a diameter of 110 million light-years.
That got me thinking: just how fast were the entities moving when they were out in space?
We know Scion was first spotted in 1982, and we know from Interlude 26 that Scion didn't come into our reality until he had been on Earth for two years.
And with that, the entity lands on the barren planet.
The planet revolves around its star once before the entity even moves.
[...]
Time passes. A revolution of the planet around its star.
So Scion got to Earth in 1980. Knowing that Imp triggered in 2011, Scion was approaching the Virgo Supercluster in 2011 - 33 = 1978.
The Local Group (the part of the supercluster our galaxy is in) is somewhere near the center, so Scion had to move a conservative 60 million light years to get to us. He did this in two years. 60 million light-years / 2 years = 30 million light-years per year.
The entities were moving at 30 million times the speed of light. I can't help but find that staggering.
