See my opinion on the whole abortion debacle (considering I'm a guy and abortion doesn't personally affect me) is I have no right to say "You can't do that" and neither does a member of a state legislature. Sure there need to be regulations, from a pure health standpoint, on clinics, but nothing that would be more than say your doctor's office or any outpatient surgical center. I may not personally believe in abortion, but I believe that others can make their own decisions about their desire to have a family or not relive rape.

Tl;Dr: Don't force your beliefs on anyone else. Even if you don't like it don't make it so someone who needs a service can't get it.

Yet I'm sure most of the people upvoting you for saying we shouldn't force our beliefs on others believe that democracy should exist in the US, thereby forcing it on people who don't agree with it. Statist hypocrisy

If you believe in another form of government, that's your choice. I have no way to stop you from your beliefs. If you want to change the world, don't do it through slamming others. Do it through teaching others why you believe your form is better. If enough people agree, things will change.

I heard this crazy rumour that if you make it to Somalia, they'll let you pay for your homestead in Bitcoin. You should go! We believe in you!

Somalia is a failed communist state. Why would I want to move there?

I hope that everyone gets out to vote, especially Women.

I am well and truly scared that IF the Republicans gain the majority in both the House and the Senate then Women are going to be screwed.

All the work women from my generation will be going out the window.

I wont affect me personally because I am a married, well educated, white upper middle class 55 year old woman but it will affect those who aren't a lucky as I am.

I don't believe I would have been able to get where I am now IF I was a young woman in this political environment.

Why?

It wasn't as expensive to pay for college as it is now.

I was able to afford an apartment and pay my bills on minimum wage.

Jobs were easier to find than they are now.

Having children/medical expenses were more affordable.

Empirical knowledge based on what I went through and what my children are currently going through.

DaTroofFoRealz•

Oh. Those things apply to all young people. I thought you were discussing women in particular.

-2
MaxineKOP•

They disproportionately affect women.

I hope that all informed men and women get out to vote. I also hope that all of those who are voting based on personality or bumper stickers stay home and let the adults handle it.

Good to know the Democratic propaganda machine is still working well.

You know I'd have a lot more support for the republicans if they weren't trying to regulate my uterus. They've got some good ideas but no one gets my vote who wants to restrict abortion.

It's not the democrats that keep me away from the republicans, it's the republicans themselves.

Yeah except I have been listening to people like Ted Cruz and his ilk and have seen how they have been up to this point and I am very concerned.

It isn't the propaganda machine...it is their OWN words and actions that have me scared

Not that it matters - where I live (in Indiana) All the possible candidates for the state legislature are "pro-life".

I guess at least the democrat supports social safety nets and so is actually pro-life, not just pro- fetus like the republican.

Alabama here. Didn't vote because no point--my voice means nothing in this state.

1
MaxineKOP•

I'm sorry you feel that way.

1
Toezap•

Me too. That said, I have voted before. But knowing it is more of a gesture than anything meaningful, I decide on a case-by-case basis if I'll participate.

Considering I had work all day and class right after work yesterday, plus I'm not living as close to where I'm registered to vote anymore, voting would have been a lot of effort for no reward, so I just didn't bother.

Why vote in state-level elections? Because states make unborn rights policies. State legislatures passed 205 new rights for the unborn in the past 3 years alone, more than the entire decade previous. Stand up for the rights of those who are unable to stand up for themselves! Vote!

MaxineKOP•

I disagree that fetuses are entitled to the full rights of personhood, but voting is important regardless.

Also, it's worth noting that some of these abortion restrictions being proposed can and will harm women with intended, wanted pregnancies who suffer complications or miscarriage. They can and will impose unnecessary regulations on and maybe even abolish IVF. They can and will reduce the options available to a patient and her family when she or the fetus is dying or experiencing a catastrophic health crisis.

I'm also not sure how forcing abortion clinics to meet ambulatory building code requirements counts as fetuses gaining rights...

10
MangoMambo•

I am voting this election specifically to do the opposite, I guess. There's currently an amendment here that would define an unborn fetus as a person and it would receive the same rights in the wrongful death acts. I am definitely not going let my voice not be heard on this issue.
