Oh wow, I didn't know that he did a serious performance recently. Now I need to go find a high quality recording of the concert and listen to it.
To fellow Hisaishi fans, you should really check out some of his other film work. Compositions for Ghibli only make up a tiny fraction of his work (~100 movies). I've seen as many of them as I can find, and I've never been disappointed in his efforts. Everything with Kitano is excellent, as is other stuff like Tokyo Family, The Samurai Astronomer, Departures, Kikujiro, and so on.
Kids Return is one of my favorite songs!
I found what seems to be a DVR recording on jpopsuki.
Share pls?
Sorry to reply to you in such an old thread! What's the best way to check out some of his other works, and do you have any special recommendations? I am happy to buy if available!
Getting access to foreign movies is always difficult. You'll have to look through whatever services/platforms you use (Netflix, Amazon, etc.) as you pick out movies to watch.
For starters, you should check out Departures. That's a recent movie of his that came away with the Oscar for best foreign film, so it shouldn't be that hard to find (and it's definitely great).
I also recommend any of his collaborations with Takeshi Kitano (famous director). Those are: Sonatine, Hana-bi (Fireworks), Kids Return, Kikujiro, A Scene at the Sea, Dolls, and Brother. Of those, I think Sonatine is the only one currently on Netflix.
Actually, I am reminded that I put together this collection of images about some of the best movies that he's composed for (mostly Ghibli). That will provide info on a lot of his work.
is it me or in this video does Joe Hisaishi look like an asian version of John Malkovich?
