Delete your stash and unsubscribe from porn sites
Some may think that it's strange for me to put this item so close to the top of the list, but I think it's so essential, a person's recovery from porn addiction can't even get off the ground until it's done. As a first step to recovering from porn addiction, this can be difficult for some people, especially those who have developed a hunter / gatherer mindset around porn. But those are the people who can benefit most from taking this simple step; if it's painful for a person to delete their stash, and they do it anyway, it sends a powerful message to the universe that they are serious about quitting.
Some guidelines:
- Look everywhere; leave nothing behind.
- If your porn is mixed in with other files, you may be triggered by needing to look closely while sorting it out. Can you get a trusted friend to help you? If not, understand that this will be the last time that this specific material will trigger you.
- Do it NOW; don't wait for your porn site subscriptions to run out before deactivating your accounts.
- Get rid of your analog stash too: if you have magazines, tapes, and DVDs, get rid of them all. Don't forget to hit the Eject button on your VCR and DVD players, to make sure there's nothing left in there.
