this is an appropriate response to a tragedy. allow more people to protect themselves and fight back in the event it unfortunately happens again.
stark contrast to any response in the United States typically, we're immediately the first thing they try to do is take the guns away from everyone who didn't do it.
It's easier to catch the ones who didn't do it.

Israel should let the Palestinians own weapons for self protection to then.
But that is a different country. Either way, Palestinians should have guns, it's a basic human right to self defense. Hiding bombs in civilian places and sacrificing people, however, is not ok.
Lots of Palestinians do have guns, whether the IDF likes it or not.
Exactly. And it's not for the IDF to decide if Palestinians have the right to bear arms.
In Palestinian controlled areas essentially Jordanian law applies not Israeli.
too
but regardless, I'm not familiar enough with what is going on over there to offer any real constructive input. If Palestine is/wants to be its own self-governing state, then their rules would only apply within their borders. Israel has a right to govern over its own citizens, that's it.
To me that is like saying Canadians should allow Americans to own/carry weapons. Canada does not make laws or rules over America.
Does that make sense?
Israel occupies Palestine militarily.
Does that make sense?
In a word, no.
Like 40+% of Israeli citizens are Palestinian Arabs.
20%
I'm surprised Israel doesn't require citizens to carry, at least all the ones who are ex military.
Good. If they really mean never again, then arm and train everyone. That says never again. No armed jews died in the showers. They died other ways sure, but not exterminated like rats.
More guns in Israel! I'm certainly going to feel a lot safer next time I visit.
No, not more guns, just slightly more lenient carry rules for people who already have licenses.
Ya! Merica!
Just giving the privileged more privileges. They're just allowing already licensed individuals more leeway when carrying.
It isn't terribly difficult to get a license there. The only major restriction they have that we don't is a doctor's approval but their docs don't have the anti-gun slant that they do here and people visit their doctors more regularly there.
I cant find it now but I saw a video a while back about their gun laws. Apparently its very difficult to get a permit unless you live near the boarder. Then even once you get a permit you're only allowed to buy one pistol for life. I'm not sure if that applies to rifles as well. From what I saw it seemed it was just as difficult to get one there as it is here in Cali.
It isn't one pistol for life, it is one pistol at a time and you can get a collectors exemption. Everyone lives near the border in Israel, it is a tiny place, and personal protection is considered a valid 'reason' under their regulations. While still 'may issue' I've never met someone denied a permit.
you should get a few sources together and write up a detailed post on it!
Yes, but at least military personnel get to carry. I wish that US military got a 50 state carry permit just like cops in the US.
Here's an idea, considering we all supposedly have equal rights regardless of whether we're cops, soliders, or just a plain old citizen, how about we all be allowed to carry everywhere?
Free people having equal rights in a Republic? That's crazy talk! /s
What a novel idea. If only there was something in the constitution that guaranteed equal protection under the law...
Absolutely. I've never been in the military personally, so it wouldn't help me at all, but it makes no sense to allow cops to carry in all 50 states but not military. I think the constitution should be the only carry permit we need.
It makes perfect sense because cops are there to enforce the law, whereas the military is explicitly forbidden from doing so. And I don't mean any insult to service members, but joining doesn't require a whole lot, and I'm not sure that passing basic training makes you any more qualified to carry in public than anyone else.
Especially since statistically the ilk that is attracted to the police profession is the least suited to carry.
Wait, cops get a 50 states carry permit?
LEOSA- any active or retired LEO can carry in any US state or territory notwithstanding any restrictions placed by the local government (excepting those established by private property owners).

Well TIL. Thanks for the info. Glad I'm trying to get hired by a PD, and now there's another cool benefit
Georgia has military carry.
But yeah, wish it'd just extend to everyone.
