Don't want to use your phone number for verification/forms? Here's an alternative

I recently discovered a collection of sites offering phone numbers for verification purposes. You are able to view any SMS sent to said numbers by visiting the site. I thik numbers are temporary, and expire after a month or two, but they are then replaced by another number instead. Here's some of the sites I found; the phone numbers are from various different countries and they work like a charm (usually).

The following sites appear to all be hosted by the same provider and can be used for free without signup:

The following sites are hosted by others, and can also be use for free without signup:

These sites even allow you to send SMS to some numbers, as well as receive (haven't tested, don't know how limited it is), again both appear to be hosted by the same provider:

And a special treat for US residents or for those with access to a US VPN/proxy...

  • http://www.textnow.com allows you to sign up and get a dedicated private US number. It can even send texts to other US numbers, and allegedly make calls, too, but you only get limited free credit for that. Either way, a private number is awesome.

They all appear to work correctly.

A note: I tried using one of the numbers to sign up to FreeEats.com; no luck, unfortunately. Let me know how these numbers work for you.

Most of these sites won't work because they use VoIP numbers. Websites that require phone verification started ignoring them a while ago because they're free and easy to setup, thus not confirming the user is legit.

Some (not too big) sites might not check if you're using a landline number or not, so it's cool to always check with your list before! Alternatively, if the site offers voice call confirmation, but requires a landline number, you may try your luck at k7.net (doesn't work anymore with Google though).

A lot of these (like TextNow) won't accept short-code texting, which sites like FreeEat use. Short Code texting is the 5-digit numbers ("Text 'Boobs' to 55822 for free boob pix on ur phone") that some companies use. Also Bing just flat-out won't work without a real phone number. Not even Google Voice works with it, and it's one of the best out there.

Also you should add Google Voice, because you get an actual number that can be texted, called, and used to make calls.

I've tried most of these and they don't work. These beer money sites are onto the the disposable phone number VoIP sms game.

Hmmm, which site did you use? Can you link the number?

Can Bing do voice verification? Use that instead, and find a SIP client. It won't work if you are behind a firewall, though, if your ports aren't open or forwarded.

I used textnow for a couple years. Before beermoney. Didn't get a good signal in my house. I use it to verify Perk at least. Seem to recall it didn't work with Bing.

FreeEats didn't accept it, so I mailed them to see if they could still sign me up with my free number. Fingers crossed :D
