Hello brothers! I would like to ask one question about my GPU.

Tech Support

Hello, my name is Thomas. I am a 12 year old kid that likes PC gaming. A few months ago I bought a Gigabyte GTX 760 graphics card. The 2GB and OC'd version, bought it for around 205$. I want to ask you, my brothers, how long is this card gonna long? By this question I mean when will I need to upgrade my GPU?

Some of my other specs are Intel i5-4460 CPU @ 3.2GHz, Kingston HyperX 8GB DDR3 RAM @ 1600 MHz, Gigabyte H97-D3H Motherboard

Right now I can play games like BF4 at 60fps/1080p no problem. But I am not really sure how long is this quality of gameplay gonna last. Thank you for reading all of this, and have a good day!

(I am really sorry for my bad English, as it is not my native language, and I am only 12 years old.)

I have a 7870 for 3ish years now and that is around the level of the 760. From what I can tell it has some power left in it but it is going to depend on what you favor in newer titles that do take more power.

Ultra 1080P? Maybe not so much. High and Medium? You can get a lot of life left out of it but it really comes down to what you are willing to play at. Older titles will still play the way they always have on them so if new games are not going to be had on your machine, then I would not worry about it all too much.

you will know probably, can it not run modern titles at what it used to?

I bought it 2 months ago, so it's still new. It runs very well in my opinion. I am not even kidding that it can run BF4 at max settings 1080p/60fps. It maybe is because I overclocked it a bit.

i meant in 2 years time will it still run brand new games or will you be stuck playing battlefield 4. a top of the line gpu will run half life when it came out at max settings but not bf4

What it comes down to is, your 760 will run games made 10 years from now, but only at the same detail level it's running games at today. As games get newer, more advanced features you may have to disable those features or get a new card. Some people upgrade their cards once or twice a year to always support the bleeding edge features. Some people keep the same card for 5-10 years because they don't care about being bleeding edge.

That is good to know, thanks for the answer. Is there a possibility that it can run new games on high/medium @ 60fps for two years?

That all depends on how the game is made. Usually PC games scale down pretty far. I was able to run BF3 1080p/high on a GTX-260 at like 40fps. thats easily a 4-5 year difference. You'll see the FPS drop first, then you'll have to start tweaking the game down to keep that 60fps. Then you have to determine which video features are most important to you to keep the same FPS. You'll probably start seeing 4k gaming get more and more popular in the next 5 years so that higher resolution will be the thing that causes you to want to upgrade next.
