Unlocked Moto g on Straight Talk, running off of worst towers ever. Help?

I bought an unlocked moto g off of Amazon, with what appears to be a trac phone sim card. Whatever towers it is running off of give me 3G only in my home city. Pretty much worthless as a smartphone anywhere else. Any way to fix this, besides purchasing a new phone? I can't even tell what towers the closest model on Straighttalk, the moto e, uses.

Guessing it's the first gen without LTE in which case 3G is the best connectivity you're going to have. Take off the back cover and see which model the phone is. You're probably on TMobile if there are coverage problems.

Check out this article, may give you some information to determine what network your using with StraightTalk (which apparently is related to TracFone) - http://www.prepaidphonenews.com/2011/12/how-to-get-tracfone-net10-or-straight.html

I bought the Moto G LTE from Amazon, model I got was XT1045 Moto G LTE and use StraightTalk outside DC and the APN first locked onto a T-mobile tower before the StraightTalk APN profile downloaded. The LTE does work, the notification bar status saws it is active.

I'd just buy a new sim card set from Walmart (the hub for Straight Talk) or their website. It's called an activation kit I believe, and it has sim cards for pretty much any network. When I activated my Moto G on Straight Talk, I used an AT&T sim and it's worked wonderfully for me now, 8 months in. So, look up what network gives the best coverage in your area, purchase the activation kit (which is around $20), use the sim card you think would work the best, and save the rest, you'll never know when you may need them.
