Increase nintype memory limit with Jetslammed
Short Summary
iOS8 Over-Aggressively terminates 3rd party keyboards for memory usage. By increasing the memory limit through this method, you can increase stability of nintype (and other 3rd party keyboards too). Just a little bit of a memory increase should help.
EDIT: Many reports that this has yielded positive results
Note: all of these requires a jailbroken iOS
note 2 : I don't have a jailbroken device, this is all crowdsourced knowledge!
Method 1: Step by Step, using iFile
Video Walkthrough by u/tindap (thanks!)
-
Make sure you have iFile
-
Edit /system/library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.jetsamproperties.{MODEL}.plist where MODEL depends on your device
-
Scroll down until you find com.apple.keyboard-service
-
JetsamMemoryLimit from 48 to a larger value (/u/tindap mentions 256mb, but I reckon 100mb should be enough. Maybe 60mb or 70mb is also enough, even)
-
Save it. Not sure yet if reboot is needed
note 1 : seems like from what I gather, in method 1, you don't even have to have jetslammed
Method 2: Through installing a tweak
-
Ensure you have jetslammed
-
Add @daementor's repo: http://elijahandandrew.com/repo/
-
Get the NinKeyboardMoreMem tweak
Old Stuff
Since I'm not actually jailbroken, I had to rely on twitter user reports, but from what I gathered, using the jetslammed tweak allows you to increase memory allocation for nintype, which means less keyboard disappearance, which also means it pops up more time (because keyboard disappearance sometimes screws up with re-appearance).
You can probably (edit: simply do this without installing jetslammed, thanks u/tindap) modify /system/library/LaunchDaemons/jetsam.plist to have keyboard memory limit to be 128mb instead of 48mb.
Here's the part of the jetsam.plist that can be modified: https://twitter.com/darkip/status/554300728408154112/photo/1
If you have experience with jetslammed, feel free to share your experience below. I'll collate it into something more solid later
