U.S. Citizens looking to move to Estonia after graduation
Hi! I am a 20 year old female looking to relocate to a culturally different environment when I graduate. I am from Florida, and will be graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Community Health with a minor in Health Education.
I would love to work in public health. I am considering becoming a Physician Assistant here before I relocate, but I am not sure if that would even be of significance there. In fact, I am pretty sure it is insignificant there due to the fact that Canada, Ghana, the UK and maybe the Netherlands are the only other places that seem to recognize the PA credentials.
I have read that healthcare professionals are underpaid there, but also in great need. Can anyone elaborate on this from a first hand standpoint? I have read the Estonia: Health Systems Review document published by the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies, but I would really like to hear it from a person rather than a WHO entity.
I am in a relationship with another woman, who is getting her Bachelor's of Applied Science in Computer Systems Networking and Telecommunications with a concentration in Network Security. She is cyber security-oriented. From what I hear, Estonia is a really great place to work in her field.
Another big question I have is will there be heavy prejudice against my girlfriend and I for being queer? I believe I read that you have anti-discrimination laws that cover sexual orientation, but will that be reflected in how we would be treated by peers or friends we may make? What about discrimination for being ex-pats? Is that a thing there or is it pretty American-friendly? It's not like we are super patriotic or anything, but it would be evident to some, obviously.
I plan to visit Europe in September-ish to confirm the plans to move overseas. I will, for sure, be visiting Sweden and I would like to make a short trip to Estonia. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.
