Universal Mining Rules

Due to the abundance of people asking questions about "poking holes?!" and "strip mining!?" in every game lately, I decided to create a set of mining rules that is fair, but still limits what people can do while mining. I hope that hosts can begin to use this guide as a rule-set for their own games, and players will get more accustomed to a similar, if not equal set of rules.

This makes match posts easier to understand as all hosts who use this guide can link to this post. If a player has already seen it and understands it, they're all good to go. Discuss any of my rules below, and I may change them if many people agree.

If you're a host and would like to follow this guide, leave your HOSTING NAME, i.e. dans1988 would say "Terribuilder", in the comments below and I will add you to the list of hosts. Mention and link this post under "Mining Info"/etc in your match posts.

Strip mining:

Strip mining below y-40 is not allowed. Strip mining is digging, usually straight forward or in random directions to find ores. It's allowed over y-40 so people have a way of mining cobblestone without strip mining at y-12 to find diamonds

Poking holes is strip mining, just with a shorter tunnel length, so the same rules apply.

Digging to things:

Digging to players at any level is allowed. If you see a name at any level, you can dig to it. However, positioning yourself far away from teammates for the sole purpose of digging to them at diamond level is not allowed. Use common sense.

Digging to sounds at any level is allowed as well. Keep in mind that spectators WILL hear sounds. This can be classified as strip mining if no sounds are heard.

Digging to entities at any level is allowed. Keep in mind that you are an entity, so you cannot dig to "that one entity". Once again, use common sense. If you're caught abusing this, you'll be banned.

Staircases:

Staircasing is allowed. However, you must start staircases, no matter what length, above y-32.

"Rollercoastering", in which you staircase from y-32 to y-5 and back up and again is allowed. (Edited at 22:20 UTC 13/1/15

Limit your staircases. There's no number limit per area, but as I've said, use common sense.
