How are they able to say Uber is illegal but this isn't? Same concept, no?
Read the article. Kakao Taxi will use registered taxis. Uber's new service will too and it's not illegal.
Edit: as two other people said at the same time.
Uber drivers are not registered taxi drivers. ubertaxi is a uber service that uses registered taxi drivers.
Because this service only uses licensed cabs.
Kakao Taxi calls registered and licensed taxis only, while Uber is for private drivers that don't have the proper registration. It's the same argument most places Uber has been introduced have had.

They can do whatever they want.
Kakao is a Korean company and thanks to the island mentality of Korea they will do anything to protect domestic products (Samsung / LG / Hyundai / Kakao / Etc.)
Sorry dude, you're not all wRong, but this is going to use registered taxis thus massaging the backs of the tqxi unions, who were the first to get outraged by uber

I believe I was downvoted heavily for mentioning chaebol protectionism during the Uber fiasco. Can I have some upvotes now?
Ah yes, the Kakao Chaebol. Parent company of Kakaotalk, Kakao Ship Building, Kakao Heavy Industries, Kakao Supermarket, Kakao Automobiles, and Kakao Home Appliance.
Don't forget Kakao Munitions, maker of the pop-up sidewinder missile. The only thing you hear before the explosion is a cute, split-second 'katalk.'
Kakao is owned by Daum. My point still stands, so fuck off
You just won the debate!
But really. Did you read the article? Do you understand the difference between Uber using private cars and the Kakao app using licensed taxis?
Yeah, I get the difference but it still smacks of protection.
Kakao basically got to take a popular idea and implement it over existing infrastructure while Uber was just told to pound sand.
And soon uber or lyft will br owned by google or fb
Not a chaebol but it is owned by daum...
Not quite. The company is Daum Kakao.
Daum like, a month ago aquired Kakao. Yes it's now Daum Kakao, but thats probably branding as Kakao is looked at higher than Daum atm. However, it WAS an aquisiton, not a merger
Read the article.
Until you are blue in the face and they still won't get it. They've already made up their minds about what the truth is and what it means. Taco bell Jesus descending from the heavens and offering them free airfare home if they'd just pick up a book and pull their heads out of their asses and they still couldn't do it
This is my favourite comment of yours ever.
I have my moments. I'd come up with a witty follow-up but fuck it, I got chicken coming out of the oven.
