Hacking attempts against the test server.

So, I've noticed in the logs, there have been a lot of hacking attempts against the server. Mostly people trying to login as Admin, and stuff like that.

I'm not discouraging that at all, I think exploratory hacking attempts are well within the spirit of the game, and sometimes will actually be necessary to complete certain puzzles.

However, I just had to restart the server, because someone tried to log in as 'readcdd0txt' about 100,000 times, pushing the server load pretty high.

It didn't crash anything, or really 'hurt' anything, but it's just unnecessary write traffic to the logs, to the point where failed login attempts were 99% of what was logged, all with the same username.

That said, in case this was just an error on someone's part, does anyone here know what I'm talking about? Anyone want to post here, or PM me about what they were trying to do?

Again, I do not want to discourage people trying exploratory hacking of the system. I just don't want to see the same login attempt so many times that it multiplies server traffic by a factor of 10.

It looked more like a DDOS than an attempt to gain access, and that's the only reason I'm bringing it up.

haha, not making accusations. It's cool if someone was trying something. I'm just trying to sort out exactly what they did, so I can figure out exactly how it was effecting things.
