A concrete tip for staying away from porn - Write a letter to your addiction

This post is part of an ongoing series of posts about staying away from porn

Write a letter to your addiction

Perhaps you've started your porn addiction recovery journal, but you're experiencing a bit of a creative block about what to write. Consider writing a letter to your addiction.

For many of us, our addiction can feel like an old friend, with whom our relationship has grown dysfunctional. We know that we need to "break up" with our addiction, so consider writing it in the form of a "Dear John" letter.

As with severing any long-term dysfunctional relationship, feelings of anger and sadness can arise. Write about those feelings - direct your anger to where it belongs: your addiction itself. Don't pull any punches, don't be afraid to express your frustrations about the lost opportunities and lost dignity that may have accompanied your addiction. Once you finish, you may feel a sense of finality and freedom that's new to you.

If you would like to read an example, feel free to read my own open letter to my addiction.
