Respect Kaladin Stormblessed
A respect thread for Kaladin of the Stormlight Archive book series.
Abbreviations used: WoK = first book in the series, WoR = second book in the series.
Strength
By absorbing Stormlight, Kaladin's strength increases proportionally to the amount of it he absorbs.
"I'm not entirely certain what I can do," Kaladin said, holding his hand up in front of him. It faded in a moment, and the fire burned through the blanket, lighting them all against. "I've only known about it for sure for a few weeks. I can draw arrows toward me and can make rocks stick together. The Light makes me stronger and faster, and it heals my wounds."

Kaladin can control the amount of Stormlight he absorbs, and it also provides him stamina.
Kaladin focused on his goal, protecting Bridge Four, and sucked in sharply. Stormlight flooded him from the pouch at his waist, but he didn't draw too much. Just enough to give him a jolt of energy.
WoK pg. 869
+++
Is easily able to carry a person by absorbing Light from one lamp.
"Then you'll fit right in with most military cooks. Come on, let's get you back to the others." Kaladin strained, getting his arms under Hobber, trying to lift him.
His body would have none of it. He let out an involuntary groan, putting Hobber back down.
"It's all right, sir," Hobber said.
"No," Kaladin said, sucking in the Light of one of the spheres in the lamp. "It's not." He heaved again, lifting Hobber, then carried him back toward the others.

Stormlight gives Kaladin extra durability.
Kaladin felt at his legs, then his ribs. He found aches and scrapes, but nothing broken or ripped. That Stormlight he'd held at the end... it had protected him, perhaps even healed him, before running out.
WoR pg. 818

Survives a two hundred feet+ drop. (Shallan is another Surgebinder for anyone curious, she also used Stormlight to shield herself.)
He looked. He had to. No sign of Dalinar, though several of the officers and lighteyed ladies who had been crossing the bridge lay in twisted, broken heaps on the ground. A drop of two hundred feet or more did not leave survivors.
Except Shallan. Kaladin didn't remember grabbing her as he fell, but he didn't remember much of that fall beyond Syl's scream. That scream...
WoR pg. 819
Agility
Absorbing Stormlight increases running/walking speed.
Even while donning the armor, Kaladin easily stayed far ahead of the heavily laden bridge crews. His Stormlight-infused legs were quick and sure.

Stormlight absorbed reflexes enough to casually dodge arrows.
Arrows flew at him. Dozens of them. They weren't fired in careful waves. They flew individually, rapidly, wildly, each archer loosing at Kaladin as quickly as he could. A swarm of death bore down on him.
Pulse racing, Kaladin ducked to the left, leaping off a small outcropping. Arrows sliced the air around him, dangerously close. But while infused with Stormlight, his muscles reacted quickly. He dodged between arrows, then turned into the other direction, moving erratically.
WoK pg.870

More arrow dodging.
Kalading spun between arrows, slapping them away with his shield. A storm raged inside him, as if his blood had been sucked away and replaced with stormwinds. It made his fingertips tingle with energy. Ahead, the Parshendi sang their angry, chanting song. The song for one who blasphemed against their dead.
WoK pg. 896

Jump height and probably length are boosted by using Stormlight.
That was all Kaladin heard. His Stormlight-aided leap let him get higher than an ordinary man could probably have managed, but his aim was off.
WoR pg. 322
+++
Is capable of flight. (This technically belongs in Surgebinding, but I feel as though flight should be put in agility.)
Until he began thinking in a new way, he wouldn't control this gift he had been given. And it was a gift. He would embrace this.
The sky was now his.
WoR pg. 607
+++
More flying, and a speed estimation is given.
Beneath, dark chasms passed one after another. Plateau. Pit. Plateau. Pit. This sensation... Flying over the land... he had felt this before, in dreams. What took bridgemen hours to cross, passed in minutes. He felt as if something were boosting him from behind, the wind itself carrying him. Syl zipped along to his right.
WoR pg. 611
+++
Has huge control over flight, can hover in midair.
Curious, he Lashed himself downward to slow further, then dismissed all of his Lashings except one up and one down. He eventually came to a stop hanging in midair.

Shows how high Kaladin can fly, as well as more control over flight.
Stormfather... He was hundreds, perhaps thousands of feet in the air. What kind of violence was happening below if boulders were thrown this high?
Kaladin Lashed himself toward Szeth, picking up speed, moving along the top surface of the storms. He drew close, then eased back, letting his acceleration match that of Szeth so they flew side by side.
WoR pg. 1034
+++
Kaladin at the peak of his power, fully filled with Stormlight from a highstorm.
Szeth was ahead. Kaladin Lashed himself through the tempest toward him, jerking one way, then the other. Dodging blitzes of lightning, ducking under hurled boulders, blinking away the sheets of driven rain.
WoR pg. 1040
Surgebinding
Kaladin increased the gravitation pull of his shield, causing all the arrows to hit the shield instead of him.
The bridgemen crowded around him as he slipped to the ground, overwhelmed by having spent too much Stormlight. He blinked at what he held before him, attached to his bleeding arm.
His shield was covered in arrows, dozens of them, some splitting the others. The bones crossing the shield's front had shattered; the wood was in splinters. Some of the arrows had gone through his and hit his forearm. That was the pain.

Can use Lashing to stick objects together.
Taking a deep breath, he picked up Lopen - the slender man was startlingly easy to lift, particularly with a measure of Stormlight still inside Kaladin's veins. He pressed Lopen against the wall.
When Kalading dubiously stepped back, the Herdazian remained there, stuck to the stone by his uniform, which bunched up under his armpits.
WoR pg. 153
+++
Lashing objects together only takes a heartbeat.
Kaladin slammed his weight against Lopen, whose strike was off-center. He shoved Lopen against the wall, then pulled back, leaving the Herdazian stuck to the stone, which Kaladin had infused in the heartbeat they'd been pressed together.

Is able to change direction of gravity for himself, allowing wall and ceiling walking.
The voice faded. For a moment, Kaladin thought he saw shadows of a world that was not, shadows of another place. And in that place, a distant sky with a sun enclosed, almost if by a corridor of clouds.
There.
He made the direction of the wall become down.
Suddenly, his arm was all that was supporting him. He fell forward into the wall, grunting. His awareness of his surroundings returned in a crash- only, his perspective was bizarre. He scrambled to his feet, and found himself standing on the wall.
WoR pg. 470

This feat is quite interesting. Kaladin can theoretically Lash an opponent toward the sky, as Szeth did, and let them fall at a few hundred feet.
How shocked he had been when the flare of light rising into the darkening above a plateau had turned out to be Dalinar himself. Lashed to sky by Szeth.
Kaladin had caught him quickly and sent him back to the ground with a careful Lashing of his own. Ahead, Szeth stumbled away from the princeling, holding out his sword wardingly toward Kaladin, eyes wide and lips trembling. Szeth looked terrified.
WoR pg. 1027
Regeneration
Regenerates an arrow wound.
The arm wound leaked Light, not blood, and to Kaladin's amazement it slowly began to seal up, crystallizing on his skin and Stormlight draining from him.
WoK pg. 870

Repairs a broken/dislocated shoulder and stamina, while suppressing Stormlight.
Kaladin sucked in sharply and forced his eyes open. Stormlight from the pouch at his belt filled him. Not too much. Don't let them see. Don't let them take it away from you!
Pain vanished. His shoulder reknit - he didn't know if he'd broken it or just dislocated it. Zahel cried out in surprise as Kaladin pitched himself up to his feet and dashed back toward Adolin.
WoR pg. 266
+++
Regenerates a Shardblade wound. Refer to my note in gear section about Shardblade wounds.
A moment of surprise. A moment to live. Perhaps... Kaladin felt the Light working, the tempest within straining and pushing. He gritted his teeth and heaved somehow.
The color returned to his hand, and feeling - cold pain - suddenly flooded his arm, hand, fingers. Light began to stream from his hand.
WoR pg. 378
+++
More healing of Shardblade wounds, this one in a very short time.
Damnation. He Lashed himself back away from Szeth, then forced Stormlight into his greying, lifeless hand. With an effort, he made the color return, but Szeth was already upon him with an airborne lunge.
WoR pg. 1035
Skill
Adept at using a spear (without stormlight).
"I could have beaten him," Kaladin continued. "I probably could have beaten all four of them. I've always been good with the spear. No, not good. Durk called me amazing. A natural born soldier, an artist with the spear."
WoK pg. 604

Was trained as a surgeon by his father and is very knowledgeable about medicine. Only listing one feat for this as it is a minor skill.
"Huh," Kaladin said. "I suppose that could fit with the seizures. Have you ever had any persistent relaxations of the muscles, and inability to smile on one side of you face, for example?"
"No. How do you know these things? Aren't you a soldier?"
"I know some field medicine."
"Field medicine... for epilepsy?"
WoR pg. 474
Gear
A description of a Shardblade, which Kaladin later acquires. Can cut through anything inanimate (at least steel and stone due to no limit fallacy) and kills by severing soul.
As always, the Shardblade killed oddly; though it cut easily through stone, steel, or anything inanimate, the metal fuzzed when it touched living skin. It traveled through the guard's neck without leaving a mark, but once it did, the man's eyes smoked and burned. They blackened, shriveling in in his head, and he slumped forward, dead. A Shardblade did not cut living flesh; it severed the soul itself.
WoK pg. 25
+++
Getting injured with a Shardblade is equivalent to losing a limb. Keep this in mind for Kaladin's regeneration powers.
If the Blade touched a man's spine, he died, eyes burning. If it cut through the core of a limb, it killed that limb. One soldier stumbled away from Szeth, arm flopping uselessly on his shoulder. He would never be able to feel it or use it again.
WoK pg. 28
+++
Surgebinders such as Szeth and Kaladin do not use Shardplate as it interferes with Surgebinding.
Szeth didn't own a set of Plate himself, and didn't care to. His Lashings interfered with the gemstones that powered Shardplate, and he had to choose one or the other.
WoK pg. 29
+++
Kaladin's spren Syl can transform into a fully functional Shardblade.
Wind blew in the opening in the wall, and Syl's ribbon of light became mist, a form she often took. Silver mist, which grew larger, coalesced before Kaladin, extending into his hand. Glowing, brilliant, a Shadblade emerged from the mist, vivid blue light shining from swirling patterns along its length.
WoR pg. 1015
+++
Kaladin does not need to wait 10 heartbeats to summon his Shardblade as normal Shardbearers usually do.
The area around him lightened. Was that the assassin? Kaladin extended his hand to the side, and Syl formed into the Blade instantly. "Not ten heartbeats?" he asked. *Not when I'm here with you, ready. The delay is primarily something of the dead. They need to be revived each time.
WoR pg. 1032
+++
Syl can become other weapons aside from a Shardblade, while retaining its deadly properties.
Kaladin Lashed himself to the side, jerking out of the way. He swiped with his Blade, but didn't come close to connecting. "I should have practiced more with the sword," he muttered. Oh. That's right. You probably want me to be a spear, don't you? The weapon fuzzed to mist, then elongated and grew into the shape of a silvery spear, with glowing, swirling, glyphs along the sharpened sides of the spearhead.
WoR pg. 1032
+++
Syl can transform into a shield as well.
Mist formed in Kaladin's left hand as he raised it to ward, and a silvery shield appeared, glowing with a soft light. Szeth's Blade deflected away, causing the man to grunt in surprise.
