Dedicated bus roads, a proof of concept

I havn't seen this done yet so I figured I would share. There are a lot of other variations possible, you could for example have to run through your entire city this way by passing ALL traffic.
Description on image:
Proof of concept for dedicated Bus roads, in this example only way to get from residential top area to the industrial area is by the highway on the lower left corner (by car).
However, the bridge indicated with arrange arrows has two bus stops in a separate road (no cars can get on it). Two busses are driving on this road between two stops. The busses got put on the road by temporarily connecting the bus road to the main road.
The best thing is that citizens actually seem to use the near bus stops to TRANSFER to other bus networks, see second image. This is just a proof of concept but after I settle on a city layout I plan to have dedicated bus road leading through the city as actual routes.
Note: If I am not mistaken the bus will have a very high modifier for citizens to take because it is the shortest route to many places across the river.
We have something like this in my home town of Adelaide called the O-Bahn. It's basically a dedicated bus road. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/O-Bahn_Busway
You could easily create a raised network of roads which aren't connected to anything but a bus depot and only go to ground level for a bus station and a path to another road. Very interesting concept!
Wow I've never seen a bus track before.
This was the first thing I thought of as well when I saw this post. Gotta love the O-Bahn (although living south, I've only ever used it once)
It also looks like less cars will be able to access OP's Bus Route, than we get trying to get on the O-Bahn!
In Utrecht we have bus roads on the same level as the rest, but exclusive to (triple) busses, taxis, and emergency services.
How do you make separate colored bus lines?
Dude. Segregation is not cool.
Go into the public transport overlay, then click on your line, then hit the Line Color in the dialog.
Thank you
Cities in Motion 2 showed what CO can do when it comes to bus lanes.
Funny how a lot of the features I and others would love are features that were in Cities of Motion. Things like this would be excellent for DLCs I think.
I think that's a brilliant solution until we get an official fix for bus lanes. I will design a road loop through downtown and heavy traffic areas which has only a bus depot attached to it. That way cars wont be able to access it and you can bypass through the entire downtown area. Then you plop another bus depot and design all other bus routes since you wont need dedicated bus lanes in suburbs. Really great insight, thx!!
So, a train?
Very interesting. I still crave bus lanes & bus only roads however. This is a good temporary solution though.
I 100% agree, and restrictions to if Trucks / Commercial traffic can be on the road. Ow and I'd love toll roads as well :D
I think the "ban heavy traffic" on a district might partially solve that
