If they did this at work, approach HR and seek a remedy. I am sure this will land them in hot water. It could be considered a hostile work environment situation.

Remember that despite what they might say, HR are not there to protect you, they are there to protect the company. They'll protect you if and only if it's in the company's interest to do so. If it's easier to get rid of you than them, they'll get rid of you.
If the matter is truly serious to you, lawyer up & don't rely on HR.

This is why I've always hated surprise parties. They've known for weeks I wasn't getting married. The last thing I want is to be reminded of it. I could say they also shouldn't act so rashly. How about waiting until the wedding has happened or to know things have calmed down a bit before planning?
