Want to buy a Vinyl online, not sure if it has the Mp3 Download code.

Hey guys,

I was looking to buy to buy Interpol's Turn on the Bright Lights LP online from JB HiFi (australian retailer), and because I like to put my music on my phone, I wanted to know if they usually come with download codes. It says nowhere on the page if it does, yet most other online retailers state that it comes with a download code. Im checking specifically for the model numbers and comparing if whether they have the code. If anyone could let me know if the record label usually puts them in then that would be great.

Thanks!

If it doesn't come with codes, I have the codes from the Matador version I can give to you. I already owned it digitally so I never downloaded it from Matador

Aight, thanks for the offer. I'll let you know if it doesnt come with it.

It almost certainly does (my copy came with one), as this is more than expected from records nowadays - if it doesn't you can always download one online, seeing as you paid for the record...

I dont really download online- I think id feel slightly guilty if i did. So is it almost standard for all records to have a download code?

I'd say more than 80% of records come with one, I have them lying all over the place

There are quite a few labels that are anti-downloadcode for some reason. Also I try and keep mine with the record to prevent losing it.

If it isn't advertised there is really no way to tell. While most major labels include them there are plenty of small labels that do not. It depends on what you buy. But I would agree that most new records come with them.

It comes down to licensing sometimes too, as crazy as that is. I emailed a record label once to ask whether a compilation came with a download code, and they replied and said they couldn't include one because some of the tracks were licensed for vinyl only.

just email the label about your problem( which I think would be Matador in your case), they're more than happy to help in my experience.

Who the fuck cares, play the record already. Jesus Christ, 2 threads on reddit vinyl about "where's my damn mp3 card? My iPod needs love too!" Fucking vinyl tourists are it in full force on reddit today.

And no to the guy who said most records come with them, the exact opposite is true. Only a tourist who "buys records for the artwork" makes sure there's a mp3 card in the sleeve before buying, everyone else here is worried about how the record sounds.

You mean I'm a vinyl cunt, right? Get it right, that one is way funnier.

Yes I am angry! I'm angry at the downloading requirement tourism industry.

Not sure this is an issue worth getting angry about.

Do you not take your music with you, or do you never leave the house?

If it was up to me I'd never leave the house. When I want my music on the go I record what I want to my computer or bring a CD. I have hundreds of unused download cards and I can't even give them away they are utterly worthless.

Of course you can record them. But it's kind of annoying and tedious and time consuming. It saves me a lot of hassle when I can just download the digital files. So as far as I can tell, it's a valid question. Someone may have bought that record new and will know if it comes with a download card. Not worth being a dick about it.

You do realize you could just put them up r/downloadcodes and then they wouldn't be so useless? You just like to complain about everything don't you?

A complaining customer is a gift to an organization.

And no I don't give away my music to broke ass teenagers on reddit. I'd rather give them to someone who will appreciate the music not some disgruntled ex-Napster user.

By the way you should have said "If it were up to me" learn some fucking grammar

When a teen in the teenage downvote mob corrects my auto correct on a "My mp3 card is missing, HELP!" thread that's when I get off the ride.

If you don't plan on using the DL cards maybe post them to r/RandomActsOfVinyl if you're willing to leave them.

Also, I have all my DL cards sitting in one of my grandpa's old cigar box until I get the incentive to download them all. I'll get to it one day. Maybe not...

Yeah! Like why can't they just fold up their vinyls and stick them in their Walkmans when they go out like the rest of us do?

1
rcheckaStanton•

Exactly. Or, idk, record your records maybe? This isn't rocket science. Then every record can be on your ☎.

Well I'm sorry for being a tourist who also happens to enjoy music on an ipod/phone. Im only asking a question, if you dont want to answer it then dont bother commenting.

The answer to your question is no. Just no.
